Ignite Your Passion for Punk Rock

At Punk School, we celebrate the rebellious spirit of punk rock with music videos, engaging content, and a connection to the influential Hamburger Schule movement.

"Punk-Schule" in German literally means "Punk School," but it most commonly refers to the Hamburger Schule (Hamburg School), a significant German indie/punk music movement from the 80s/90s blending punk, grunge, and pop with intellectual German lyrics, while also referencing general German education system terms like Grundschule (primary) . Welcome to Punk school.

New Wave Theatre (Episodes 1–25) — Overview

New Wave Theatre was an early-1980s television program that first aired locally in Los Angeles on UHF Channel 18 before expanding to a wider audience on the USA Network as part of the late-night series Night Flight.

Created and produced by David Jove, and co-written with Ed Ochs, the show became a defining platform for emerging punk and new wave artists of the era. Featured acts included:

  • Bad Religion
  • Fear
  • Dead Kennedys
  • 45 Grave
  • Angry Samoans
  • Circle Jerks

Each episode opened with a rapid montage of performances, set to a distinctive theme combining “Camarillo” by Fear and “American Music” by The Blasters.

The program was hosted by Peter Ivers, whose signature dark sunglasses and stream-of-consciousness monologues on art, life, and music gave the show its unique tone.

Episodes were booked by Do Monkey Productions, an underground, artist-driven booking force operating out of the Los Angeles punk scene, where instinct mattered more than industry and the goal was simple: put the rawest, most dangerous bands on camera. The team included Tequila Mockingbird and Richard Skidmore.
